A New Park in Kirkland

KPCF is working with the City of Kirkland to support the purchase of the iconic Fisk property. This unique and idyllic piece of old Kirkland is on 6th St. adjacent to the Cross Kirkland Corridor (map). It features the babbling Everest Creek and the iconic Red Shed. This natural refuge and tranquil oasis of green will be preserved for all to enjoy. Please join us to help support the purchase of this unique property!

KPCF first contacted the Fisk family long before the city got involved with preserving the shed, creek and land. After Jim Fisk passed away, the family chose to put the property on the market. As developers were circling, the Foundation worked with the city to encourage obtaining site as a new city park. We committed, as a partner, to help to raise the funds required to for the purchase. The city, for its part, stepped-up and committed what funds it could, $200,000 of the $800,000 price, and borrowed the rest to keep the property from being developed. KPCF has been raising money, and will continue to do so, to help repay that loan. Every dollar we raise is one less tax dollar required. It is hoped that King County will also contribute, but the bulk of the $600,000 loan repayment is up to the city and KPCF, as its partner. KPCF was there at the beginning. We are going to see this through to a successful loan retirement and the park safely added to the City’s park system.

As everyone who values our park system knows, the accumulation of park land has always taken bold action and courage. It has required notable investment of resources and the visionary commitment to future generations. Fisk Park is one of those visionary opportunities to make an investment! Reach deep to leave a legacy and demonstrate our values, for generations to come.
